Creating Art With Up-cycled Vintage Books!

1. Go ahead, it's ok. Rip up an old vintage book. Just make sure first that the pages are strong, it's a boring book, and that it's not worth anything on Amazon.com :)

2. Paint, splatter, cover, paint. Use gesso, inks, watercolors, glitter and glam sprays.

3. Layer, paint layer. Add funky up-cycled elements such as pieces of old tape measure, and a pinch of punchinella (from Gauche Alchemy).

4. Feature a black and white photo that brings the background design to life.

5. Add hand-made vintage book-page roses and some old shabby buttons to give it nostalgic charm and dimension.

  6. Jodie,

I absolutely love this piece that you've done. It has such a calming feeling to it. You can just breathe that feeling in. I am absolutely in love with the flowers. Will they be for sale soon? Thanks for sharing and for your inspiration.

I try things like this and it always looks a mess, wish I had your talent. and those roses, do you have tutorial for them? they are amazing, definitely going to grab some old books for layering and try again after looking at this, glad Frank Garcia pointed me to your blog.

  8. Your colors and textures are always so softly beautiful, yet full of life! The roses are just perfect! I have a lot of old books here in very poor shape (wouldn't be worth anything on Amazon, for example). I definitely have to try this!!!
